How your values can affect your work
There is a quote from Annie Dillard, “How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives. What we do with this hour, and that one, is what we are doing.”. With that in mind, it’s important to make sure that your work aligns with your values.
Making aligned choices
We’ve all been there, a project comes in and it’s your job to say yes right? I know we don’t always have the option to say no. However, I think it’s important to have some flexibility in what you spend your days working on.
When we get really clear on what’s important to us, it becomes a lot easier to make aligned choices. Perhaps you’re saving for a house, with that in mind saying no to projects may not be in your best interest. At times spending more time with family might be something you need to factor in, in which case, saying no to a new project might be best for you. Ultimately, it’s up to you to make decisions for yourself.
Build Tech to add value into the lives of your users
These days, with the Internet in each of our pockets, it becomes easy to influence our users. If we are all building products that are more in alignment with our own values, perhaps our work will start to trickle down to our users. We can start to build applications that enhance our users experience, rather than adding more distractions into our already busy worlds.
Values are different for each of us, it’s important to honor what’s going on for you. While remembering to be kind to our users, and provide solutions that are useful in our modern world.
